What's new in QuestAgent 8.0

Release 8.0 of QuestAgent is focused on

  • ease of search engine integration with an existing site design, and
  • improved browser and platform compatibility.

Most significant changes include:

Search Engine

QuestAgent indexing engine now by default saves in index both original and stemmed variant of a term. Stemming is also enabled by default for simple search queries. However, if a term (or terms in phrase search) is specified in double quotes, search will be run with stemming disabled. (You can also completely disable stemming in index profile properties.)

JavaScript API

QuestAgent's JavaScript library hides complexities related to initialization and use of the search applet when it's used to create HTML based search interface. The JavaScript API provides solid base for unobtrusive integration of search engine into an existing site design, allowing further customization where it's needed.

Integration samples

Search interfaces from v7.0 have been replaced with a collection of integration samples. These samples demonstrate (and explain) how to integrate QuestAgent search with different site structures.

Desktop search application

Search applet Java archive qagent.jar is now also executable as a desktop application. If search applet fails to run for any reason in the future (e.g. incompatible or other unforeseen changes in new generation browsers), QuestAgent search applet can be run as a desktop application to find and open documents.
